The Hrímnir full cheek training bit is the optimal add-on to your training equipment. It can help horses that are stiff to the sides or have problems understanding sideway rein aids. It is also suitable for work with young or little trained horses. This bit is likewise a soft solution for daily training of every horse. The bit combines the advantages of long side bars attached to eggbutt bit rings and the innovative design of a double-jointed mouthpiece.
The side bars are 16.5 centimetres long. They have the function to provide lateral support to the horse’s mouth and cheek and prevent the bit from sliding through the mouth. This distributes the rein pressure to a wider area and can encourage the horse to respond better to bending or turning aids. The eggbutt bit rings provide extra comfort and stability in the mouth of the horse. The double-jointed mouthpiece features the same innovative design as our other double-jointed Hrímnir bits, which were developed with maximal comfort for the horse in mind. The mouthpiece is twisted forward 30°, so it lies flat between the tongue and palate when the horse is ridden. Its curved shape keeps the joints from irritating the palate. The Hrímnir training bit is made of durable stainless steel which has a neutral effect on salivation.
A full cheek bit functions like normal snaffle bits in the mouth. In addition, however, the side bars ensure a secure and finer rein guidance. This full cheek training bit is ideal for young horses or for those that are having difficulty understanding the rein aids. Both when working from the ground or during riding, horses tend to respond better to bending- and stretching exercises. The bit is made with high-quality workmanship. The unique and elegant ornamentation is based on ancient Viking designs. The engraved L stands for “Left and Low” and should be on the horse's left side.
The Mouthpiece thickness is 14 mm. Available in sizes 10.0 cm, 10.5 cm, 11.0 cm and 11.5 cm. This bit conforms to FEIF rules and meets international requirements. Therefore, it is allowed in FEIF sport and breeding events (only in combination with English nosebands).

Which size to choose?
There is no general rule for which bit width fits your horse. Each horse has its individual conformation and needs. We recommend measuring the width of your horse’s mouth at the corners of the mouth or to try different widths of bits in order to see what size fits best. The bit should not be longer than the width of the mouth by more than 1 cm. That means that the bit should not protrude more than 0.5 cm on each side of the mouth.
The bit rings should lie stable at the corners of the mouth, but without pressing onto the cheeks. When pressure is applied to the reins (especially sideways pressure), the bit should lie stable in the mouth and not move the cheeks. Try to put pressure on only one rein and see how the bit moves. If the sidebars of the bit move more than 1 cm out of the mouth, the bit is probably too wide.
