The Complete Guide contains more than 200 pictures in full colour! An extensive book dealing with numerous subjects: the gaits, groundwork, driving, hoof care, evaluations, etc.

A part of the foreword: .......Today there is a considerable choice of publication on various subjects regarding the Icelandic horse. Next to Icelandic most of those books have been written in German or one of the Scandinavian languages.

However, there is still surprisingly little to find in English, even though English is the official language of the international Icelandic horse community. This book is an ambitious and brave attempt to put that right. It covers all major topics of breeding, keeping, training and riding Icelandic horses – making it the most comprehensive publication on the breed available in the English language. I congratulate the authors on all their hard work and wish the readers much delight with this wide-ranging and informative book.

Þorgeir Guðlaugsson
Review: This lovely new book is a real treat ! I have been involved with (and smitten by) Icelandic horses in Scotland for very nearly sixty years - since Stuart McIntosh imported some to Edinburgh in the 1950s. Since then there have been various publications with beautiful photographs of the country and the horses, and other books from Europe, and from Elizabeth Haug in California. These have been gratefully received by enthusiasts in the U.K.

However, here we now have a truly excellent, comprehensive volume which covers every possible aspect of the history of the breed, horse behaviour, horsemanship, advice about training, and in my view, and equally important - the variety of different opportunities and activities to enjoy with your Icelandic horse, both in sport and leisure. Something particularly impressive is the outstanding quality of the illustrations. These comprise photographs, maps, diagrams and drawings, all of which contribute towards this being a helpful, easy to follow guide on everything you need to know about training and riding your horse.

This is a book which will appeal to all riders of Iceys, whatever their experience, ability or area of interest. It will take some time to thoroughly read and digest all that is included here, so rather than attempting to comment on everything, I would just like to recommend that this book is a huge asset, and an essential read for any Icelandic horse enthusiast, leisure and competition alike. Rather than just a complete read, the advantage of this book is to be able to consult it on any aspect of learning about and understanding our special breed.

Enjoy.
